Mockingjay

Fair warming, this post contains tons of SPOILERS.

Ahem.

I started in last night before I went to bed. I read 2 chapters.

I woke up at 7am and before my kids could bug me for breakfast, I picked it back up. I didn’t stop until I finished. Cameron was a gem and let me read. And by gem, I mean a diamond. A keeper… FER-HER-SURE!

I was not disappointed. I was routing for Gale, but I am happy with the ending. Now that  I think about it, I think I would enjoy the story even more if I had  been routing for Peeta. I liked Peeta, but for some reason I found myself expecting he would die. Or Gale would. That would make her choice easier… but I think she picked the right guy. There were specific reasons that  she needed each guy in her life, Peeta to love her unconditionally and Gale to be her Hunting “Partner in Crime” so to speak.

I suppose I had an emotional wall up. I mean, people die. I cried when Rue was killed and was super worried about what Katniss would have to endure after winning  the first Games… to the point I wasn’t sure I could handle reading Catching Fire. I mean, I was really really into the story. So I started Mockingjay with a “lets get this over with”/”I have to know how this story ends” attitude.

I think Katniss is great. I like her a whole lot more then Bella Swan… but that’s a whole ‘nother Essay. I love that  Katniss is fighting to live and for life

I loved the banter between Katniss and Finnick.  The scene where he whips off his hospital gown made me laugh out loud.  (pg.79)

I’m always waiting for something  bad to happen and I was on edge during the wedding. I’m so glad it went well. :)

I love the turn of events and how elements of The Hunger Games keep getting thrown in.

By the end though, I just wanted it all to end. I didn’t want Katniss to endure one more thing, and I wasn’t surprised when Prim was killed… but I don’t think it was necessary! It was sad, but really?!

I hoped she would kill Coin. And she did. That was awesome.

It’s always a little (but just a little) disappointing when a series like this ends. No ending suffices… because I don’t want it to end!  Same thing as when Harry Potter ended and  Fablehaven… and Twilight… the  just end. It happens.

These books are incredible political and I love how it makes me think. I’m not a particularly political person and these stories (although fiction) make me wonder about my own character and what I think I could or could not  endure. Which character in the story would I be? What would I be passionate about? What side would I be on?  Would I be willing to kill someone else to live? What would I do if I felt I was being used in political games? What if it were a family member or friend? Could I really be there for them the way they needed?

UGH! See! Just thinking about it all makes me head spin and my heart hurt!

If you like Hunger Games, I think you will like “Uglies”, “Pretties” and “Specials” and “Birthmarked”.  “Eragon” and “Eldest” also have a similar feel at times.

*Just threw this together, didn’t spell check or reread. I might add to it later.

I actually was not a fan of Mockingjay. Seriously, the whole point of her entering the Hunger Games was to protect Prim and then she dies? So stupid. If someone had to die it should've been the mom, and then she and the dad could've met back at the Hanging Tree.

And then Finnick died too? Lame. He finally gets happiness with Annie and then dies? It was too dark. Why didn't she kill of Haymitch? Or Beetee? Or people that had no one, but were still important to Katniss? Even Gale? Or Peeta? Seriously, bad choices I think.

I still enjoyed the read, for sure, I just was majorly disappointed with a lot of how the characters ended up. You spend so much time investing in these characters only to have them die or just diminish from her life. Seems silly.
