Birthdays, Animals and Saimin!

When the guys got back from camping, Ka'imi was sleeping and stayed asleep for another hour or two. Cameron took a nap with Ikaika and  Makoa played at the neighbors (good friends of my family). Megan and I helped my dad wash the vehicles and then set up a pool he had bought. When Ka'imi woke up and Makoa saw the pool outside,  of course they wanted to get right back in the water! They played and played while I baked a cake for Ka'imi's 4th birthday.

He had gotten a bunch of gifts from Aunties Megan already and we were planning to take him to a petting zoo later that day. Plus we didn't want to bring back a bunch of toys, so the gifts were kept to a minimum - it worked out perfect. Megan got him balloons and my parents got him the movie "HOP" - which both he and Makoa love.

We sang Happy Birthday, and had him open his gift and then we all had some cake and ice cream. (Some had more cake than others, LOL). I had made my first ever, double layered chocolate cake with chocolate pudding in the middle with chocolate frosting and mini marshmallows around the sides. Quite possibly the worst cake to make for my boys, especially Makoa - chocolate seems to send him into a crazy state. He actually did ok yesterday. Anyway, the cake tasted amazing.

We Skyped with Cameron's sister, BriAnne for a while - it was good to "see" her out here! =) Ka'imi kept smothering his lips in pudding and trying to give everyone kisses! He was loving the attention and being so silly. It was adorable.

Afterward we cleaned up and got the boys ready to go to the little St. Catherine's School carnival up the street where the boys enjoyed the petting zoo. Ka'imi has been particularly interested in petting animals lately. My aunt in Eagle Mountain, Utah has chickens, turkeys, horses, goats and last weekend we were visiting her and Ka'imi insisted on petting all of the animals. The night we arrived, one of the first things he asked my dad when we finally got the house was "Can I pet your chickens?". It was too late that night, but her sure did the next morning! Out here on Kaua'i there are wild chickens everywhere and he's finally realizing it's not an easy thing to pet those. Anyway, the petting zoo was a success. I think it sort of blew his mind that it was actually OK to pet any/all of the animals in that cage.

After the petting zoo, Stephanie (my sister) got some Malasadas (deep fried dough with sugar) and Ikaika especially loved them!

My parents watched Ikaika for us while we went to dinner at Haumura's Saimin in Lihue with my sister, Megan, and her fiance, Chad. It was a good time with the best Saimin ever! The BBQ Chicken is my favorite. I remember going to Haumura's when I was just little, maybe 5 or 6 years old! It was fun to take Ka'imi and Makoa there. Ka'imi loved the Saimin and Makoa love the BBQ Chicken!
